A CKD Warrior and His Wife

💪 “We’re Walking This Together” – A CKD Warrior and His Wife

My husband was diagnosed with CKD over 20 years ago, living with just one kidney after losing the other to kidney stones in his late twenties. For years, we managed—carefully, quietly, and with hope. But two years ago, everything changed. He progressed from Stage 3 to Stage 5, and just this year, in early 2025, he began dialysis.

It all happened so fast. One moment we were adjusting to new lab results, and the next, we were learning how to navigate a dialysis schedule, new medications, and the emotional weight that comes with it. We didn’t have time to prepare for what this journey would look like—but we faced it together.

There have been hard days. Days when the fatigue is heavy, when the uncertainty creeps in. But there have also been moments of quiet strength—like the first time he smiled after a treatment, or when we found a rhythm in the chaos. I’ve learned to be his advocate, his cheerleader, and sometimes just a quiet presence when words aren’t needed.

He is a CKD warrior -not because he chose this path, but because he walks it with courage. And I walk beside him, every step of the way.

To anyone just beginning this journey: you are not alone. There is strength in partnership, in community, and in the small victories that add up over time. We’re still learning, still growing, and still holding onto hope.
